Marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage is “unitive, indissoluble and calls us to be completely open to fertility.” Christian marriage at its finest is a reflection of God’s self-giving love expressed between the love of two people.

Marriage

While we believe that human life is infused with the sacramental goodness of God, the Catholic Church has defined seven sacraments - instituted by and through the life of Jesus Christ. It is through the experience of the sacramental ritual that we are infused with God’s grace. The Sacraments nourish and strengthen us as they express and build up our faith.

Marriage is a covenant "by which a man and woman establish between themselves a partnership for the whole of life" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1601).

A Christian marriage is the bond between man and woman and is to reflect Christ’s love for the Church.

Any engaged couple who wish to be married at St. Mary must be a registered member at least 6 months prior to the desired wedding date. The couple will meet with the pastor prior to marriage as well as attend an approved Marriage Preparation program. Please contact the Parish Office to schedule a meeting with our priest. It is best to check church availability before making a reception hall deposit.

A couple who has been married in a non-Catholic ceremony (example: by a Justice of the Peace) and wish to have their marriage “blessed” can have their marriage “validated” at a church ceremony celebrating the sacrament of marriage.
